Hammerhermit - RIP
It is with much regret to let all those on this site who either personally knew Mike or kept in contact with him that he passed away at 6.30 yesterday after a long battle with Kidney cancer, if any of you wish to leave a message I can get them to his family.

R.I.P Mike.

RIP Mike (Hammerhermit) a true hammer from all your friends on West Ham online.

RIP Mike and although it'll be no consolation to your family, I'm pleased your pain and suffering is now at an end, as I wouldn't wish such a disease on anyone.

The west ham families thoughts are with your family.

Didn't know Mikle personally, but exchanged a few whomails and always enjoyed his contributions to WHO, from where he will be missed.

Condolences to his family.

Re: Hammerhermit.
Oh no... I am so sorry to hear this.

A genuinely good, decent bloke. Old school, old West Ham. Wonderful sense of humour. Kind. Honest.

Interested in the world around him and beyond. Wanted to make a better, fairer world and did what was in his power to make that happen.

WHO is diminished.

Rest in peace, old fellow.

Coffee - Nice words.

I use to have quite a bit of contact with Mike on WHOmail back when. He han't been back to the UK for around 25 years, I believe, and desperately wanted to return for one more time to see the old palce and take in a game, unfortunately he never did make it. I believe he has a Sister residing in Scotland.

Private

Yes, he always retained his love for his country.

I remember one thread on here, maybe 10 years ago, something to do with patriotism. Someone posted a youtube video of I Vow To Thee My Country and he got terribly emotional. I forget his exact words, but clearly remember thinking they were the written equivalent of tears of pride.

Re: Hammerhermit.
PD, Mike did make it back to England once, he took his son Benny with him and thoroughly enjoyed his time 'back home', he found the journey exhausting as due to his immense frame, he was a fraction just under 7 feet tall and big with it, it wasn't a comfortable journey,, his Sister Mary still lives in Scotland.

Re: Hammerhermit.
Hammerhermit was the first poster on here that I could tell was a genuine top bloke just from reading. It came across clearly that he was a proper old school Hammer who you'd happily have a good beer and chat with, and you know if you turned up in Australia he'd look out for you.

Let his family know that on here, as I'm sure in real life, he was well respected and liked by all who hd contact with him.

RIP, big man.
